Facts
SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE PLA BIO-PLASTIC USED IN OUR BOTTLES, GLASSES, BOWLS, SERVING PLATTERS, AND FOOD PACKAGING PRODUCTS:
- Bio-plastic is made from a corn-based resin which uses the starch part of corn and does not impact the food supply.
- PLA (Polylactic Acid) uses 65% less energy to produce and emits 90% less greenhouse gases.
- The plants used to produce the bioplastic are a renewable resource grown in the United States; most other plastic start life as oil sourced in the Middle East.
- The PLA resin is sourced from NatureWorks, a company headquartered in Minnetonka, MN, and produced in a plant in Blair, NE.
- The shelf life of the compostable bottles are shorter than petroleum, requiring closer monitoring of volumes and better storage strategies.
- The Bio-plastic has no exposure to BPA (Bisphenol A).
FACTS ABOUT THE COMPOSTABLE DINNERWARE AND OTHER MATERIAL:
- We carry plates, clam-shells, and bowls made from sugar cane fibers which are normally wasted bi-products. No tree-fiber is used in these products.
- Sugar cane fibers decompose easier than wood paper products.
- Ideal for the microwave and the freezer, these products can withstand extreme temperatures and hot liquids.
- These products will compost in a backyard composting bin.
- Eating utensils, straws, and cold cups are made from corn starch material, meaning no chemicals or petroleum-based plastic to deal with for generations.
- The napkins, facial tissue, toilet paper and copy paper are made from the same sugar cane materials; no trees were cut down to make these products.
- The hot cups are made from renewable/recycled resources and the compostable lids are made from corn starch material.
OTHER FACTS AND USES FOR OUR PRODUCTS:
- All products are made in full compliance with the United States Food and Drug Administration guide lines.
- Most products are BPI (Bio Plastics Institute) certified meeting D6400 standards.
- Our products are competitively priced. Also many times compost waste pick up is less expensive than landfill waste.
- Food packaging and serving products are ideal for catering opportunities and deli applications.
- Great for meetings, large events, or other applications where compost bins and pick-ups are already in place.
- These products work well for food applications where composting is recommended. The plates, cups, bowls, silverware, serving containers, bottles, napkins, food scraps, and kitchen waste can be disposed of together.
- Complete the circle by using compostable garbage bags made from a blend of organic biopolymers which biodegrade leaving no harmful residues. No sorting or confusing bins — just organic waste yielding nutrient-rich compost.
- Your whole event or location can be compost only waste. The compost at the end is a valuable nutrient rich soil which will grow more food — not sit in a landfill forever!
Water Billboards feels it is irresponsible to sell our compostable bottles and materials without making sure there is a facility that can dispose of them properly. We are willing to work with you, as well as the haulers and the compost facility in your area, sharing the knowledge and resourses we have about composting, to ensure your company, event, or meeting is memorable for people, not the earth.
Everyone is talking about what to do — We are doing something about it.
